The Smart Utensil that measures your meal while you eat it.

Meet BiteQ: the AI-powered utensil that quietly identifies, weighs and tracks every bite as you eat — so you never have to log, weigh, or photograph a meal again.

Beyond nutrition into behavior

What does the BiteQ Smart Utensil measure?

Calories explain the fuel. Pace, bite size, meal duration and time of day explain the habit. The Smart Utensil measures both at the same moment, from the same bite, which is the thesis behind BiteQ as a data company.

How it works?

How does the BiteQ Smart Utensil work?

Person at a dining table holding the BiteQ utensil beside a bowl of food and a phone, ready to pair it

Step 1

Pair.

Press the button and hold the utensil flat to activate the sensors. A subtle buzz and steady green light let you know calibration is complete. Open the app to connect once, and BiteQ will automatically reconnect for every future meal—just like your favorite wireless headphones.

Intelligent utensil

Smart design, smarter eating.

Packing a sensor array, a dual-core processor, camera and a battery into something that still balances like a spoon (or fork) that's the hard part. At ~56 grams and 2mm thick, BiteQ handles like the utensil already in your drawer.

Sensors

A tri-axis sensor maps your exact motion in three-dimensional space, while an ultra-sensitive load cell captures bite weight down to the gram. Paired with a seamlessly embedded micro-camera for instant food recognition and a sophisticated haptic engine for real-time guidance, every component works in perfect, invisible concert.

The built-in camera instantly identifies plated meals and barcodes from an ever-expanding global library.

What splash resistant does not mean

BiteQ survives spills and splashes during a meal. The handle is NOT rated for submersion, soaking, or a dishwasher cycle. Inside is a sealed battery and an optical sensor, and heat and detergent will damage them. To clean, simply snap off the metal head—it is 100% dishwasher and sink safe. For the smart handle, never soak it or put it in the dishwasher. Just wipe it clean by hand with a damp cloth and dry completely before docking. Wipe the handle by hand, then dry before docking.

Questions people usually ask

BiteQ, answered.

How does BiteQ track nutrition without manual logging?

BiteQ integrates a sensor fusion architecture that enables the utensil to identify the food being consumed, quantify the weight of food carried per bite, and monitor hand-to-mouth movement patterns. Operating in tandem, these sensors measure the quantity actually consumed rather than the portion served, thereby eliminating the need for manual data entry within the application.

Is BiteQ dishwasher safe?

Negative. The BiteQ device incorporates embedded electronic components, a sealed internal battery, and an optical sensor; consequently, it is not dishwasher-safe. The utensil is designed to be manually wiped clean by hand, followed by thorough drying prior to charging. Exposure to dishwasher thermal conditions, chemical detergents, or any immersion will compromise the internal hardware and render the unit permanently non-operational.

Is BiteQ waterproof?

The BiteQ device possesses splash and spill resistance; however, it is NOT fully waterproof (Yes, we are working on making our 2nd Generation waterproof). It is engineered to withstand the standard moisture associated with typical dining. The stainless steel utensil attachment (spoon or fork head) may be detached and cleaned with water in the manner of traditional cutlery. Upon being thoroughly dried, it can be reattached to the main unit. Please note that the device is not certified for liquid immersion, soaking in a filled sink, or exposure to automatic dishwasher cycles.

How long does the battery last and how do I charge it?

The BiteQ device features an integrated battery rated for full-day operation under a standard usage profile of approximately three to four meals daily. Recharging is facilitated via a pogo-pin docking system, eliminating the need for exposed external ports. Estimated battery longevity may vary depending on individual dining duration and frequency.

Does BiteQ need the app to work?

The utensil independently logs meal data, and the integrated vibration motor provides real-time haptic pace feedback without requiring proximity to a mobile device. However, synchronization via Bluetooth Low Energy to the companion application is necessary (and recommended) to access detailed nutritional analytics, behavioral trend analysis, and the AI nutrition advisor.

How accurate is the measurement?

Measurement precision is achieved through direct quantitation rather than estimation. The integrated sensor measures the exact weight of food removed from the plate with each bite, preventing unconsumed portions from distorting total intake calculations — a primary source of error in manual logging and image-based estimations. Validated accuracy metrics derived from the beta trial program and clinical research will be formally published upon completion of the study cohorts.

How is my eating data stored and used?

Dietary data is strictly associated with your account and utilized exclusively to synthesize nutritional and behavioral insights, as well as to power the artificial intelligence advisor for personalized guidance. BiteQ does not monetize or transfer personal dietary data to third parties. Comprehensive data management protocols, including specific retention schedules, are provided to participants prior to device shipment.

How is BiteQ different from a food logging app like MyFitnessPal?

Conventional nutrition-tracking applications require users to recall consumed meals and estimate serving sizes, introducing significant inaccuracy and contributing to a high rate of user attrition within weeks. Conversely, BiteQ measures consumption at the precise moment of intake, recording only the food actually removed from the plate while generating behavioral dining analytics that manual logging methods cannot replicate.

Does it work with any cuisine?

The BiteQ device is compatible with any food items consumed using a spoon or fork, encompassing rice and curry dishes, pasta, grain bowls, soups, salads, cereals, and the majority of plated meals. Food items consumed manually by hand or utilizing chopsticks fall outside the measurement capabilities of the current utensil iteration. Cuisine coverage within the food recognition model continues to expand through the ongoing beta program.

Who is BiteQ for?

BiteQ is designed for individuals seeking precise, automated nutrition tracking without the daily friction, inaccuracy, and fatigue of manual food logging. Additionally, it serves organizations that require reliable, measured dietary data to support health and wellness outcomes. This second group includes clinical care providers, registered dietitians, metabolic and weight management programs, senior living facility operators, academic and clinical research teams, as well as corporate wellness program providers.

Does BiteQ replace a dietitian?

No, BiteQ is not intended to replace a registered dietitian or healthcare provider. Instead, it acts as an objective measurement and feedback tool designed to enhance professional clinical care rather than substitute for human clinical judgment. Standard nutritional counseling often relies heavily on patient self-reporting and recall, which can be prone to human error and memory gaps. BiteQ solves this by supplying precise, real-time data on actual measured food intake and consumption behaviors such as meal duration, eating pace, and bite size. By providing dietitians and clinicians with reliable, granular insights into a patient's true habits, BiteQ enables practitioners to deliver more personalized, accurate, and effective guidance.

When will BiteQ be available and what will it cost?

BiteQ is currently in the validation phase. Device allocations are prioritized for waitlist participants in sequential cohorts, and fee structures for individual and organizational subscriptions will be communicated to waitlist registrants prior to official general release.
